Online payments provider PayPal has issued a warning relating to the treat of "phishing" scams for credit card customers.
The organisation claims that cyber-criminals are using "increasingly sophisticated techniques" in order to steal consumer's credit card details, including phishing attacks where they trick Brits into giving up their personal information.
According to PayPal, the message will usually be made to look like it is from the consumer's bank and asks for details including credit card details.
Gareth Griffith, head of risk management at PayPal UK, said: "If anyone is ever in doubt about the authenticity of an email they should never click on the link."
He added: "With more people than ever banking online in the UK it's really important that people remain vigilant whenever they are making financial transactions online and don't inadvertently leave themselves open to becoming a victim of a scam or fraud."
Recent research by CreditExpert found that young, single people who live in shared accommodation are most likely to be the victim of ID fraud.
