Londoners 'at higher risk of credit score damage' June 12 2009

People living in London are four times more likely to have their credit score ruined by ID fraud than those in other areas, according to a new report.
CreditExpert found that Kensington is the worst identity fraud hotspot in the UK, with residents six times more likely than the national average to be a victim of ID fraud.
Outside London, commuter towns such as St Albans, Guildford and Windsor were found to have consumers at the most risk.
The firm has warned that ID can ruin a person's credit report and affect their future applications for finance products.
Darryl Bowman, director of CreditExpert, said people should monitor their credit score to check for new accounts being opened in their name or credit searches from companies they have not dealt with.
He added: "Each one of us needs to be aware of the dangers of ID fraud and take steps to protect our identity and stop thieves from getting access to our personal information. One thing you can do is regularly check your credit report so you can spot unfamiliar activity, such as a fraudulent loan application in your name."
The Prepaid International Forum recently said that prepaid credit cards can offer security to consumers as they are not linked to a person's financial history.
No bank account required to be eligible for a prepaid card from PIXPAY.
