Prepaid credit cards can help young people heading off on a gap year adventure, according to Moneysupermarket.com.
The price comparison site claims there are a number of ways which people can make their money stretch further on a trip away.
It has advised people planning to head away on a gap year to save up beforehand and possibly get added as a user on ther parent's credit card.
The site claims that prepaid credit cards can be "good options" as parents can easily top them up while the youths are away.
The lack of credit means 'gappers' can also not spend any more than what is loaded on the prepaid card.
Peter Harrison, travel money expert at Moneysupermarket.com, said: "A gap year is a great opportunity to experience different ways of life and see other parts of the world. "But such a big adventure requires careful financial planning, especially as graduates and students may not have had much money education in the past."
Recent research by Visa in its Travel Smart study found that people heading abroad prefer using cards to cash, with travellers also showing an increased interest in prepaid cards.
